The Outdoor Education Program at Trinity spans five years from fourth grade through eighth grade. The program is an extension of the classroom curriculum. Besides the academic objectives met by the students on these trips, there are many opportunities for students to learn a great deal about themselves and about their peers. The students homeroom teacher and myself accompany the students on the trips. The trips range in cost from $100-$500 including travel meal expenses.

Fourth Grade-The Outdoor Education Program begins with the fourth grade. The fourth grade spends two days and one night camping at Goose Island State Park. They participate in learning how to set up camp, cook outdoors, group initiatives, kayaking, fishing, compass orienteering, hiking, and activities from Project Wild.

Fifth Grade- The fifth grade spends two nights at Camp Allen in the Texas piney woods. They participate in the "Discovery Program" with the wonderful Discovery staff supervising their activities. Some of the activities include: low elements challenge course, group oriented initiatives, archery, herpetology, aquatic explorations, canoeing, and wilderness skills.

Sixth Grade-The sixth grade class heads for the coast for three days and two nights. Beginning at Welder Wildlife Foundation, they begin their quest for knowledge of aquatic wildlife in freshwater wetland lakes, estuaries and bays. Learning how to use GPS tracking devices and kayaking are part of their first day activities. Their first night is spent is spent at the University of Texas Marine Science Institute in Port Aransas which includes a trip aboard the research vessel The KATY the next morning. The next day is spent involved in an oceanography camp-in program at SeaLab and The Texas State Aquarium. |

Seventh Grade-The seventh grade class spends four days and three nights at The Outdoor School on Lake Marble Falls in the Texas Hill Country. Activities include: team building, kayaking, low and high elements, survival skills, overnight camping and caving at Enchanted Rock.

Eighth Grade-The eighth grade spends four nights at Mo-Ranch in the Texas Hill Country. They participate in the Environmental Leadership Program which is designed to "promote stewardship of God's creation, through hands-on activities that teach environmental awareness and the leadership skills necessary to encourage responsible use of our natural resources." Some of the activities they participate in are team building initiatives, low and high elements, rock climbing, compass orienteering, and canoeing. Environmental studies include: reptiles, entomology, freshwater ecology, field botany, owl studies, and night hikes. .
